Hidradenitis suppurativa is a skin condition that results in the formation of small, painful lumps beneath the skin. Lump formation is most common in skin folds where skin rubs together, such as the armpits, groin, buttocks, and breasts. The lumps may reoccur and can cause tunnels under the skin and scarring.
Although Black patients have a two to three times higher incidence of the condition, the population remains underrepresented in research.
