Lung cancer causes the highest number of cancer deaths globally. While smokers have the greatest risk of lung cancer, it may occur in people who have never smoked. Signs and symptoms of lung cancer typically appear when the disease has advanced, and can include persistent coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, and chest pain.
Research has found that Black Americans with lung cancer were less likely to be diagnosed early, less likely to receive cancer treatment, and less likely to survive five more years when compared to White Americans.
